Bladik looks up to Lysandor, "Commander Krom... always commander Krom." he says with conviction. Rau nods "It is customary for the cadets to undergo the basic defensive measures for the main entrance. Of course they aren't the primary defense force there as the grand guard of 6 highly trained special forces are in full command of the gate." Rau says looking uneasy, "However as of late, the cadets have been the only force available to do that duty as the seasoned soldiers that are regularly stationed there have become incapable of defending that position due to... current circumstances." the old dog admits reluctantly.

Me' Kel continues to gather the things she will need for the incantation. Thane stands looking skeptical at her till she shuffles past him with an arm load of items back into the main hall. She quickly reads the book as she begins to organize her ingredients into the quantities required. Thane squints as the sharp smells of the mixtures make him feel nauseated. Me'Kel sighs and looks up to Thane with a grin, "All ready." she coos. "Great..." Thane says sarcastically.

Lysandor lets this soak in without saying anything for a few moments. "The only defense you have right now is the cadets, correct?" His brow furrows almost imperceptively in thought. "What is Commander Krom's condition, Elder Rau? If he is not too badly afflicted, we will need to speak to him as well."
Lysandor turns back to Bladik. "Have there been any increase in attacks since you have been assigned to guarding the front gate?"

Rau twists his head to Lysandor like he tasted something he doesn't like. "For the most part... Yes." Rau grumbles. "But I feel compelled to point out that a veteran force watches the gate in the evening hours when the attacks are more frequent... and violent." Rau nods as Lysandor speaks of Krom and this makes Rau uneasy. "The commander?" Rau snorts not wanting to reveal the seriousness of the commanders condition before the junior officer. "I'm sure he would like to help where he can. Rau says looking grim. Bladik looks up to Lysandor, "As the elder has pointed out most of the attacks come at night... but infrequently and only occasionally will a beast wander into the canyon and find the barrier." he says with a glimmer of his former self. "The last was the main course at the feast in your honor Master." Bladik smiles.

"The attacks are more violent and frequent at night?" Lysandor repeats softly. "What manner of creatures attack? Surely any beasts would know by now that this area is unsafe . . ."

Rau nods, "Does that surprise you?" The elder says looking amused for the first time. "Yes most creatures avoid the gate, but the largest and most aggressive that dwell in the outland actively seek out established dwellings. Simply due to the sheer volume of food to devour." Bladik says looking sheepish. "Many would parish without the protection of the barrier and those of us who defend it." Rau stands looking lost in thought for a moment and then extends a finger and shakes it knowingly. "Although it does seem that the attacks have escalated in the past few weeks." Rau says with a furrowed brow. "These attacks almost seem deliberate now... not just as random occurrences as they have in the past, and with greater numbers than before also." Rau conjectures. "It could be just a coincidence, but it is just too convenient to the current circumstances and our weakened defenses..." Rau shakes his head... "Sorry... once a sentinel, always a sentinel, it is hard not to suspect the worst."

Thane stands looking nervous and he slowly backs away as Me'Kel looks determined to preform her enchantment. Thane nearly jumps from his skin as there is a sharp knock at the front door. "WHO GOES?" Thane barks at the door half annoied by his startled state and half relieved by the intrusion forcing Me'Kel to hold her spell. A faint voice calls from the other side of the thick door "It is Elder Wenn... and Master Lye, please allow us entry." Thane strides swiftly to the door and disarms the bolt and opens the door to allow them entry. "Welcome back." Thane rumbles.

Lysandor lets this digest. "How often do these beasts attack? If possible, I would like to observe it. And with your knowledge of the area and the creatures living here, I would like to have you with me. Your sentinel's instincts would be useful."

Rau twitches his nose for a moment, "Usually one or two beasts and only once, maybe twice a fortnight has been the norm for several hundred years." Rau nods as he speaks. "Lately, however, it has been 3 or more and in as many nights in a row. The entrance guard have become strained with so much battle, and with so many afflicted with this... this curse, should I dare call it..., I fear it is only a matter of time before we must enlist the villagers for guard duty." Rau growls. "It would be my pleasure to show you our defense force in action... though we are now few we are still a formidable force to be reckoned with." Rau stands tall folding his furry arms as he boasts of his troops. Bladik stands silent and only nods in eager agreement.

Wenn looks up to Thane as the door opens. The old hound smiles and waddles through the door. "It would appear that Lord Falco knows more than he wishes to admit about this situation... yet he has offered some cooperation..." Wenn then frowns at Me'Kell when he sees what she has prepared for the spell. "Me'Kell my dear what have you been doing?" he says with a furrowed brow. Me'Kell smiles warmly and laughs. "Why Wenn you know full well what I'm doing, conducting the seeing spell." She coos. Wenn walks to the table and shakes his head. "Very dangerous spell, if it fails you will go quite mad... if you remember..." Wenn nods knowingly. Me'Kell frowns looking quite determined, "We will see the events that elude us if it works, and that alone is worth the risks." She nods.

Thane's eyes roll up as Me'kell speaks with Wenn. Thane looks to Lye as he holds the door for her to enter. "So...Lye, did the old traitor have anything provocative to say?" Thane says being sarcastic. "Or did he just ignore you completely?"

"He made several insinuations and a few blatant statements about my honor as a royal subject and a lady. And my intelligence. Overall, probably not too bad and I expected no less." Lye laughs. "Luckily Winn here has earned Falco's respect so we got a small hint. He said to scour the site where the incidents have occured very thoroughly." She says the last bit with some growl in her voice, imitating Falco. "Perhaps there are some clues that have been missed, some rocks unturned?"

Thane's nose wrinkles as he tries not to laugh at Lye's imitation of the old hound. "That old stuck up waste of fur is lucky Lord Grell has honored Elder Brock's wishes and has spared Falco his sorry hide. Thane snorts. "Or we all would have feasted on his bones for his treachery." Thane then looks to the elders as they bicker over the spell. "Perhaps when night falls we should investigate the scene for ourselves..." Thane's eyes return to Lye for a moment "When Lysandor returns, we should convene and pool what we have learned so far among ourselves, then perhaps uncover a stray clue that can lead us to the answers we seek."
