In total, there are eleven race and race-types to choose from. However, with the ability of Fallen Angels to breed with seven of these races to produce Pe'ri, and of Leccubi to create others from those numbers, this makes for up to thirty-one different options to choose from when creating a character. As with most role-playing games, your characters is probably above-average from their racial base. This means they are stronger, smarter, etc. than others of their race. You may decided that you character possesses an ability or power not listed in their racial description, and so long as its not too powerful, it will be allowed. However, all the weaknesses in the racial description must apply to your character. Below are descriptions - both physical and often cultural - of the different races of Hell. They each have listed strengths or powers, as well as weaknesses, often unique to the race. This does not mean you cannot have warrior Devil Cats or scholarly Gabriel Rachets, and in fact we encourage out-of-the-box thinking and role-playing, but it does mean that there are certain restrictions to each race that can make it ineligible for possible character options down the line. ConstructsConstructs are creatures made from different materials or other living things - basically making them something of a magical item. Depending on the quality of craftsmanship, Constructs can look like exact duplicates of a specific member of a race or a tossed-together hodge-podge of spare parts. If you're thinking Frankenstein's monster, you're not too far off. Constructs can have powers and abilities similar to other races, but this is often muted in Constructs. Some may possess memories of their previous lives (some with memories of multiple lives), but they are rarely able to make sense of such memories. Construct intelligence and independence varies from Construct to Construct. Some may be brilliant researchers/scholars, others may be simple, mindless servants. Most denizens of Hell treat Constructs as one might a quasi-sentient horse or parrot - useful or even entertaining to have, but not very bright. This attitude has allowed some Constructs to become useful spies. After all, the only thing Constructs are known for besides their "limited intelligence" is their loyalty to their masters. Powers: Determined by type and craftsmen ship. Weaknesses: Dependent - No matter what type, level of craftsmen ship, or how intelligent/independent a Construct may be, all Constructs must belong to another character. They must have a master. Constructs without a master often become increasingly disoriented and confused, unable to make decisions. The longer a Construct goes without a master, the more confused and disoriented they become, until they stop wherever they are and wait for another being - any being - to find them. They will then imprint on that being, and will serve it for the rest of their lives. Back to Top

DemonlingsDemonlings make up the majority of the demonic population in Hell. There are some scholars who even suggest that Demonlings are the only native resident of Hell. Whether that is true or not, Demonlings seem to be able to live in most any terrain of Hell with few ill effects. They resemble a bipedal lizard with a thin, semi-humanoid face with large eyes, scales, a long tail, and lizard-like claws. While Demonlings come in many colors, most tend towards earth tones of browns and greens. They are often small, few taller than 4', and most are quite thin. In Hell, Demonlings often take up residence as the lower class. With their limited powers, Demonlings can rarely stand against the more powerful demons, making them easy targets. However, Demonlings are nothing if not consummate survivalists, and excel at filling the niches few demons deign to. Demonlings can be found in most noble manors working as servants, or in the Market hawking their wares. However, their small size, quick speed, and aptitude for stealth also makes them excellent spies and thieves. Powers: Stealth - All Demonlings are experts at hiding and moving about unseen. Speed - Though small, Demonlings are very quick, and capable of short bursts of speed that allows them to escape. Weaknesses: Class - Demonlings are the lowest of the low - and they know it. Most Demonlings defer to other demons in all matters, and no Demonling can be born into the noble classes. Back to Top

DevilsDevils are the second most common race in Hell, and have never forgotten that their people once ruled an Empire. They come in all shades of red, pink, blue, and purple, with hair that can be any color in the rainbow. Devils possess clawed hands, long, hocked legs ending in vicious talons, and prehensile tails. Though they are all born with draconic wings and multiple sets of horns, only the higher class Devils still posses them. Despite their fearsome appearance, Devils rarely top five and a half feet, making them quite short compared to the larger races, and are usually thin and lanky, with sharp features. Almost complete opposite from Demonlings, Devils are a fiery race, quick to anger and passion, but slow to cool. Their minds are as quick, if not quicker, than their passions, and often quite mercurial. They are known for their love of intrigue almost as much as they are known for their love of fighting and festivals. Devils feel very few ties to anyone, including members of their own family, and are notorious for their double dealings. It is a wise demon that does not fully trust a Devil. Perhaps because of that love of intrigue, however, Devils often make up the higher classes in Hell - making their living as merchants, slavers, and even high-ranking nobles. Devils possess their own court, with their own king and queen, which is nominally part of the High Council that advises the Queen of Hell. Powers: Flight - If the Devil has wings that are large enough, they may fly. Char'Sarei - A martial art created and developed by Devils, it takes over 200 years to perfect. At the moment, only Elite are proficient in it. Weaknesses: Intrigue - Devils are well known for their love of intrigue, and even low-ranking Devils indulge themselves with schemes of petty vengeance or power plays. This makes other races reluctant to trust a Devil, even if they are being sincere. Sharp Tongue - Many Devils are quick to speak without thinking, often in the heat of the moment. Back to Top

Devil CatsDevil Cats actually have very little ties to Devils at all. They are shape-shifting masters of the shadows, and are aptly named as two of their three forms are feline. Devil Cats come in all patterns and colors natural to Earth cats, and have soft, silky fur in their more feline forms. They possess three forms, which they may shift to at any time. The first and most common is a half form, which possess traits of both feline and human. They are covered in soft, silky fur, and have small, flightless, feathered wings. Their faces are often partially feline, with cat's eyes and ears, and many have a flexible, though not prehensile tail. They can assume a humanoid form, devoid of fur, wings, tail, and other cat-like features, but keep their eyes. Their third form is that of a horse-sized cat, which can be ridden. Due to their submissive nature, most Devil Cats are slaves to higher-ranked demons. As such, their numbers are carefully maintained by their masters and have a limited population in Hell. The more Devil Cats a demon has, the more powerful and wealthy s/he appears to be. As shadow elementals with mastery over the shadow, combined with their well-known submissive natures, Devil Cats make excellent spies and thieves. Powers: Vanish - Any Devil Cat can easily hide in shadows and remain hidden. Confuse - A Devil Cat may entrap a lower-level demon in a ball of shadows for a limited time. Teleport - Devil Cats have limited teleportation abilities that allow them to travel up to three-feet away from their original point. They way this works is very individualized with each Devil Cat. Purr - A Devil Cat may purr and put lower-level demons to sleep. Weaknesses: Pet - Devil Cats are naturally submissive in nature, and are nearly always kept as pets to other demons. Even the more independent Devil Cats are still more submissive than most other demons. Frailty - Devil Cats are extremely weak and frail compared to other demons, hardly stronger or hardier than a human. Back to Top

Fae, DarkDark Fae are the evil, twisted, and beautiful rejects of Faerie who have formed their own court of exiles and criminals. Though called Fae and Faerie, they are not the delicate pixies of human fairy tales, but the primeval monsters of the night. Such stories as Jenny Greenteeth, Kelpies, Trolls, and even Will o' the Wisps are often the work of Dark Fae. Their appearance is as varied as their numbers, with one common attribute: all Dark Fae possess a deformity that expresses itself as an animal or plant attribute. This deformity can be anything from a hollow back, bark skin, horns, or even cat's eyes. This deformity is always something obvious. Some Dark Fae even possess insectoid wings. These wings are very tough, unlike insects, and often decorated with piercings or hole patterns. The Unseelie Court has sent an envoy to Hell as a gesture of support, as well as an opening maneuver to a possible, future alliance. At the moment, there are only so many Dark Fae in Hell: one prince or princess, two ambassadors, three lords or ladies, and five warriors who report to the Elite. The job of these Dark Fae is the promote a relatively peaceful relationship between Hell and their home Court, as well as to discuss possible business ventures. The Court of the Dark Fae is much more formal than the Court of Hell, full of intrigues and double-speaking and plots, and many Dark Fae find the straight-forwardness of the Queen and her subjects confusing. Powers: Intimidate - A Dark Fae causes fear in all creatures on sight, with the severity of this fear varying in terms of power. They may give all their attention to one creature and cause severe terror or panic. Fly - Many Dark Fae have wings and can fly. Dimensional Pocket - All Dark Fae can create dimension pockets of various sizes, but no larger than one 8'x10' pocket. Elfstruck - A low-level version of Charm, Dark Fae can cause a lower-level creature to become enamored with them. Infernal Hum - If they have wings, a Dark Fae may rub their wings together to create a maddening hum that will drive a lower-level creature temporarily insane. Depending on the creature's level, the madness can last between a few moments to a few days. Weaknesses: Frail - Compared to nearly all demons, Dark Fae are very weak and frail - hardly stronger or sturdier than a human. Honest - It is a cultural taboo for Dark Fae to lie, though as the Unseelie Court is often made up of those exiled from the "good" Faerie, this is not always a standard Dark Fae adhere to. Fallen AngelsAs their name suggests, Fallen Angels are those who followed Lucifer into Hell, or were cast out by Heaven for various crimes. Fallen typically can have any shade of human skin, hair, or eye color, but are much taller and bigger than humans. Most stand over six feet, with some few standing over seven feet. Many Fallen bear the mark of their Falling in some physical way - whether it be scars, graying hair, or even lined faces. All Fallen have feathered wings, or scars from where their wings were removed. However, their wings always look dirty, as though dust is clinging to every feather, which worsens the longer a Fallen remains in Hell, until the wings are completely black. No amount of cleaning will reverse this change. Their wings are also constantly molting, leaving a trail of feather wherever they go. All Fallen are considered nobility in Hell, even if the Fallen in question is as poverty-stricken as any Demonling, but few claim such titles or even realize their station. Many Fallen are trained warriors, skilled with one type of weapon or other, and a greater percentage of Fallen become Elite than any other race. However, all Fallen suffer from some form of insanity, which is always obvious and sometimes debilitating. The most famous example is General Zarek, who while ruling the Fallen and controlling the Horde, was extremely forgetful and often semi-catatonic, even when awake. Fallen have their own ruler, who is the highest ranked Fallen in the Horde or Elite. At the moment, there is some confusion as to who this may be in Hell. Powers: Flight - As long as a Fallen is still in possession of their wings, they can fly. Endurance - Fallen are extremely hardy. They can keep fighting even with fatal injuries, and go up to a week without food or sleep. Strength - All Fallen are very strong, and a male Fallen can lift up to one ton while a female may lift up to one-half a ton. Veil - Fallen can hide their presence from mortals and lower-level demons, and even hide their wings to better pass among mortals. Detect Lies - A Fallen can always tell when they are being lied to, unless their insanity prevents them. Empathy - Nearly all Fallen possess empathy, or the ability to feel or sense the emotions of another being, to some degree. Weaknesses: Madness - All Fallen, regardless of age, gender, and/or rank, are insane. This insanity must be something debilitating and obvious. Back to Top

Gabriel RachetsGabriel Rachets are so named because their oldest king swore to dog the steps of Lucifer's archenemy to his doom. Rachets are closely related to hellhounds, resembling something like a demonic, fiery werewolf. They are huge canine-like beasts, with feral traits from their distant hellhound cousins. Like the other shape-shifting elemental demons, Rachets possess three, sexually dimorphic forms. Males in their half form stand over six feet and are often burly. They possess short horns over lupine faces. Females are shorter, most standing under six feet, with a much more delicate build, and a pair of bat-like wings that allow them to fly. All have thick coats of brown, grey, or black and glowing, flame-colored eyes. The humanoid form of Rachets appear mostly human, though they retain rather lupine features, with males retaining their tails and females retaining their wings. Their third, animalistic form, looks like a demonic wolf with glowing, flame-colored eyes - very similar to their hellhound cousins. Rachets are fire elementals, and their fiery spirit dominates their tight-knit social structure. Their society is ruled by the physically stronger males, though females are stronger magically. Due to this strength, males and females are treated with respect in their culture. There is little tolerance for rule-breaking in Rachet society, though they care for their own. Very few Rachets are found to be disloyal to the Crown, though they are not exempt from the intriguing within their own society. Powers: Flamewalk - A Rachet may walk through a fire without harm, even through smoke inhalation. Howl - A Rachet's howl causes intense fear in lower-level creatures. Firedance - This skill is particular to female Rachets, and allows a group of females to create a vortex of flame. Flight - All female Rachets possess bat-like wings, which allow them to fly. Males do not have wings. Weaknesses: Berserker Rage - A Rachet can occasionally go mad for no apparent reason, and kill or destroy whatever is in their path until they are subdued or killed. Kitsune, DarkDark Kitsune are a race that has migrated to Hell since Lucifer's Fall. As with other shape-shifting elementals, Dark Kitsune have three forms which they may change to at any time. Their half form consists of a vulpine head, delicate fox legs, blunt claws, and tails. Most Dark Kitsune are covered in soft, thick black fur, though there are a few with silver, black-tipped fur and some with red, black-tipped fur. Their animalistic form is a wolf-sized fox with as many tails as centuries they have lived, and their humanoid form retains their eyes and fur-coloration in their hair, as well as their tails. All Dark Kitsune over one hundred years possess multiple tails, each tail representing a single century of life. Due to their culture, Dark Kitsune are a limited power in Hell, retreating to their own quarter in Pandemonium. Dark Kitsune have a lifespan of 1000 years - no pure blood Kitsune may live to be older. As they are ruled by the eldest of them - called the Lord of Nine Tails - leadership of the Kitsune changes each century, with their "Emperor" being elected from the oldest, most powerful of them. Kitsune are more isolationist than other races, with their nobles often preferring Kitsune guards and servants. Powers: Illusion - A Dark Kitsune of 200 years or younger can cause an object to be ignored; 300-year-old Kitsune can produce an illusion of one solid object; 500-year-old Kitsune can create a 15'x15' room, and a Kitsune 700 years or older can produce an illusion of one building. Charm - Dark Kitsune can seduce a lower-level creature for a limited amount of time, with the time depending on the level of the Kitsune and targeted creature. Teleport - All Dark Kitsune may teleport up to six feet with a thought. Weaknesses: Short Life-Span - Dark Kitsune can only live for 1000 years in a place where most races are ageless. Psychic Vampire - Dark Kitsune are a constant drain on those around them, stealing energy to keep their power strong. Back to Top

LeccubiLeccubi is the name for the combined races of Succubae and Incubi, and is the highest evolution of vampires. The race began with Lillith's twin children, Orchid and Erethkhanial, but other Leccubi are created, no born. Any creature - including humans - can become a Leccubi, often with the Leccubi parent infusing its fledgling with its power. However, a Leccubi can force a creature - usually humans - to endure the lengthy process of first becoming a vampire. If a vampire lives for more than one thousand years, they may start to exhibit characteristics of becoming a Leccubi, and by seventeen hundred years, they will have completed the transformation. Such transformations are rare, as vampires will hunt down those who exhibit Leccubi characteristics for the power in their blood. Sometimes, those who begin the transformation are taken in by a Leccubi and brought into Hell. Those vampires then become servants to their Leccubi masters until their transformations are complete, and many are never powerful enough to break from their masters. Once the transformation is complete, the creature ceases to be considered a member of their original race, and are now held by the standards of the Leccubi race. Despite the sensual and often sexual nature of the Leccubi, their society is ruled by a series of very strict and subtle laws and traditions that govern everything - from the acquisition of fledglings and pets to the interactions between different Leccubi. These laws are rarely visible to those outside the culture, and most Leccubi work hard at keeping it that way. Most Leccubi excel at being courtiers, handmaidens, or valets to nobles, and many work to obtain noble titles. Currently, the Leccubi are ruled by a council made up of the most powerful of their race. Powers: Seduction - All Leccubi are extremely attractive and sensual. They do not need to consciously use their powers of seduction to attract others. Healing - Leccubi heal very rapidly, able to mend broken bones in a matter of hours. More severe injuries can take days to heal (or more rarely, weeks and months), but unless otherwise stated, they will eventually heal. Thrall - Leccubi possess a form of hypnosis that can put one lower-level creature in their control for a short period of time. The affected creature will only experience pleasure, and the more powerful the Leccubi, the more pleasure the victims feel. Weaknesses: Sunlight - If Leccubi is exposed to direct sunlight for longer than ten minutes, they will burst into flames and die. They, their fledglings or vampires, do not sparkle, and will often become insulted if such is suggested. Wooden Stakes - Wooden stakes are only effective if they completely pierce or destroy the Leccubi's heart. Holy Symbols - Holy symbols will cause discomfort to a Leccubi, and may distract them if they are exposed to one held by a true believer for a long period of time. Holy symbols held by Angels will cause moderate pain, and should they be touched by it, will be burned and scarred. Holy Water - Holy Water acts as a corrosive acid to Leccubi, and in large quantities, can cause death. Blood & Lust - All Leccubi need blood and sex to survive, and most keep one or two pets with them at all times for a food source. If a Leccubi tries to go without, or is forced to go without, they can devolve into a mindless beast, a slave to their desires. Back to Top

NightmaresNightmares are one of the few shape-shifting races in Hell that are not also elemental. They are a horse-like, sexually dimorphic race. Both genders have very equine faces, short, wiry fur in shades of black, equine legs ending in hooves, and flaming manes and tails. Males are often quite tall, standing over six feet, muscular, and large hooves. Females are smaller, with a more slender build, and more delicate hooves. Females also have a single horn, approximately six inches, on their foreheads, which the males lack. Both have bat-like wings, which allow them to fly. Their animalistic form is a bat-winged horse, also showing their sexual dimorphism - with males appearing more like Clydesdales or British Shires, and females looking closer to Thoroughbreds or Arabians. Nightmares are a proud and wise race, known for their insights and abilities in dream interpretation. Most are fond of all types of fortune-telling - Tarot readings, astrology, tea leaf reading. While Nightmares lack the ability to magically heal, it is not uncommon to see a Nightmare in a medical profession. Though they are most often seen as mystics, Nightmares also have a reputation as strong warriors, and there are quite a few Nightmares in the Elite. Powers: Sleep of Death - A Nightmare may put a lower-ranking creature in a very deep, death-like sleep. Only the Nightmare who initiated the spell or a higher-level sorcerer may awaken them. Dreamwalk - A Nightmare can enter another creature's dream. They can watch passively or affect the dream at will. Flame Aura - Nightmares can make one creature within ten feet of them feel as though they are on fire without igniting them. Weaknesses: Delusions - Though mentally powerful, Nightmares are surprisingly susceptible to charm, seduction, and illusion spells or abilities. While a Nightmare may realize that what they are seeing or feeling is not real, escaping from such spells/abilities is twice as difficult for a Nightmare. Back to Top

Pe'riPe'ri is the name given to the child of a Fallen and demon coupling. Pe'ri can have characteristics from their demonic as well as Fallen parent. Though these powers or abilities are generally weaker in the Pe'ri, they are very versatile. All Pe'ri retain the Fallen ability to blend in with a crowd in any situation, but unlike their Fallen parent, the Pe'ri cannot do this without a crowd of more than five people. Pe'ri also inherent their Fallen parent's insanity to some degree. Like Fallen, Pe'ri madness must be something obvious and debilitating. Demonling Pe'riAlthough uncommon, Demonling Pe'ri do exist. They usually take after their Demonling parent in build, rarely topping six feet, and very slender or lean. However, they resemble their Fallen parent in coloring and appearance, having more humanoid features. Demonling Pe'ri can have hair on their heads, but few have body hair and some may even have scales instead. Powers: Daggerwings - If the Fallen parent was an Elite, and if the Pe'ri has wings, then the Pe'ri may be trained to use their scaled wings as offensive weapons in combat. Speed - Like their Demonling parent, these Pe'ri are capable of short bursts of speed. Glide - If the Pe'ri has wings, they can use them to glide short distances with a running start, or from a higher place to a lower place. Back to Pe'riBack to Top

Devil Pe'riDevil Pe'ri are often a blend of their Devil and Fallen parents. They can come in any Devil color, though they are consistently paler, and while they never reach their Fallen parent's height and breadth, these Pe'ri can be taller and more muscular than their Devil parent. All Devil Pe'ri have wings, which are often a hybrid of the two types - feathered with Devilish spines and claws - but most impoverished Pe'ri will have scars where their wings were removed as a child. While few Pe'ri of this type develop the taloned feet of their Devil parent, most have short claws or long nails that grow into points. Some may even be able to grow a single pair of horns. Powers: Flight - All Devil Pe'ri are born with wings, and the most wealthy or powerful will still possess them. Char'Sarei Tin'se - A Devil Pe'ri may be able to use a variation of Char'Sarei, developed specifically for this type of Pe'ri. As with Char'Sarei, this demonic martial art is difficult to master, and only those in the Elite can be true masters of the art. Back to Pe'riBack to Top

Devil Cat Pe'riDue to the limited number of Devil Cats, there are few Devil Cat Pe'ri. When born, Devil Cat Pe'ri are always white. As they age, their fur and wings slowly darken - mimicking the dirtying affect of the Fallen's wings - until they are completely black. As with Fallen, there is no way to stop or reverse this process, and many Devil Cat Pe'ri are obsessed with bathing themselves. Pe'ri of this type retain some of their shapeshifting ability, able to assume two forms. The first is similar to the Devil Cat's half form, being a humanoid feline covered in soft, fine fur with somewhat feline faces, and somewhat small, though fully functional feathered wings. Their other form is also winged, but resembles a Fallen with feline eyes. Both forms are rarely as tall or muscled as their Fallen parent, though most are larger than their Devil Cat parent. Powers: Flight - All Devil Cat Pe'ri are born with feathered wings. Strength - Devil Cat Pe'ri are almost as strong as Fallen. Males can lift half a ton and females can lift a quarter of a ton. Agility - Devil Cat Pe'ri are almost always graceful in their movements, and with their smaller size and wings, are incredibly agile on both the ground and the air. Back to Pe'riBack to Top

Fae Pe'riFae Pe'ri are a limited number in Hell, and are usually attaches to the Dark Fae ambassadors. As with the Dark Fae, Pe'ri of this type can come in any color. All Fae Pe'ri are born with wings, and some seem to have a hybrid between the insectoid and feathered, the result often looking ornate or even stylized. Powers: Flight - All Fae Pe'ri are born with wings that allow them to fly. Allure - A weaker version of the Dark Fae's Elfstruck, this can work on multiple, lower-level creatures, drawing them to the Pe'ri. Gabriel Rachet Pe'riRachet Pe'ri are often well-respected and well-received in both communities. Males are usually very tall, standing no less than six feet, with larger, muscular builds. Some are born with feathered wings, but all possess short horns and furry tails. Females are often smaller, with a more slender or delicate build, and can have wings of either type, or a hybrid. Both males and females of this type are covered in soft, fine fur of brown, grey, or black. Unlike most other elemental shape-shifters, Rachet Pe'ri only have on form. Strength - Rachet Pe'ri are often stronger than either parent, with males able to lift up to one and a half tons, and females able to lift three-quarters of a ton. Kitsune Pe'riKitsune Pe'ri are extremely rare, as Dark Kitsune culture is almost self-contained. These Pe'ri are often rejected by the Dark Kitsune, despite their power. As with many other elemental shape-shifted Pe'ri, Kitsune Pe'ri are able to shift into two of four forms. The first is a half-form that is covered in short, fine fur, vulpine-ears, a tail, and wings. The second is a Fallen form, keeping much of their appearance and coloration. The third is a nearly-human seeming form, often with some demonic feature that remains prominent. The fourth and last is a wolf-sized, winged fox form. Though Kitsune Pe'ri only possess one tail, no matter how many centuries they have, some will have multiple pairs of wings representing the century or millenia they have lived. Powers: Flight - Kitsune Pe'ri often have feathered wings. Mirage - Kitsune Pe'ri can create ornate and often elaborate illusions that are almost always intangible. Nightmare Pe'riNightmare Pe'ri often take after their Fallen parents in appearance, though they possess equine ears and females will have spiraled horns in the center of their foreheads. Their faces may be longer than their Fallen parent and some are known to have fewer toes on their feet. Many often take after their Fallen parent's coloring, though some will have their Nightmare parent's coloring of grey-tinged skin. Nightmare Pe'ri often have bright, flame-colored hair that follows a flame-like pattern. All Nightmare Pe'ri possess wings, with some having bat-like wings, feathered wings, or a hybrid of the two. Powers: Flight - All Nightmare Pe'ri possess wings. Living Death - Nightmare Pe'ri can affect a weaker creature with a deep, dreamless sleep that mimics death. This is similar to the Nightmare's Sleep of Death, except that the affected creature may be awakened by most normal methods. Flame Blast - A Nightmare Pe'ri can cause a concentrated cone of fire, up to six feet. Back to Pe'riBack to Top

Leccubi & ConstructThere are no Leccubi or Construct Pe'ri, as both are technically undead and cannot bear or father children. However, a Pe'ri of any type may become a Leccubi through the normal process. Back to Pe'riBack to Top
