Summary:
On the night of the Demon Ball of Shadows - an annual masquerade - an assassin lurks. An edict from the Queen commands that on midnight, the demons unmask themselves and kiss the first person they see. It is at the height of the festivities that the assassin strikes, leaving a dagger in the heart of P.o.X., along with a message. "The Queen's days are numbered. The true heir of Hell is coming to take her rightful place."
What the assassin failed to realize, however, was that it would take a lot more than a simple dagger to kill the likes of P.o.X. He lived to warn the Queen and her court. It seems that Lucifer had children even Orchid was unaware of. While special weapons are made for the court to deal with this threat, the Queen decides recreation is in order, and makes plans to visit the Mortal Realm. Several of her courtiers and servants join her.
After a night of drunken, demonic revelry (ending with a destroyed bar and a slight brush with human police), they return.
Upon their return, they are presented with more information regarding their opponents. It seems they have paid off the dungeon guards to hold an extra prisoner, without the knowledge or consent of the rest of the guard. The prisoner is revealed to be a immensely powerful Dragon trapped within an egg - and the only one who knows anything about it was supposed to have died during the Second War.
Orchid speaks with Khan, revealing her affair with Michael, the Archangel who has this knowledge, and that he is still living. They go to visit with him, finding little more than a madman ,who speaks only in riddles.
As it happens, Lamya - the half-sister of the Queen and also daughter of Lucifer - has orchestrated this to take the throne from the Queen, along with Logos the first Angel. The Queen and her people go to confront the two at their home. The confrontation left them all nearly mortally injured, and the demons thoroughly trounced.
In the end, Lamya speaks with Logos as he contemplates the Dragon Egg, proving that they are still a tangible threat to the Throne of Hell.
