What is the Queen of Darkness?
The Queen of Darkness (or QoD) is a role-playing game based in Hell, and usually revolves around the life of the Queen and her court (and their pets, servants, enemies, etc.). Rather than focusing on battles and experience points, the game mostly focuses on character interaction. The story of the game is led by the Game Master (or GM), but for the most part, the plot is character-driven.
What is the setting?
For the most part, the game is set in Hell, which has several areas to play in. More can be found in the Settings and History thread ( rpgqod.proboards.com/thread/7/setting-history ). As for timeline, the QoD is set in a modern(ish) world, with visits to Earth playing a role in many threads.
If the game revolves around the Queen and her people, what about my character?
While you will probably want to create a character that will fit into the game, we are more than willing to work with you on any character you create. We will try to utilize all Player characters in the game, as we understand the disappointment of creating a character that is then never played, but sometimes this isn't feasible for the time being.
Can I play a _____?
To date, there are only a small handful of races that are not available for Players - humans and half-humans, good-aligned or similar characters, and Dragons. Humans and half-humans are simply too weak in a game dominated by demons and Angels. Good-aligned (or holy) characters are the natural enemies of most Player characters, and therefore only available for NPCs. Dragons are neutral in the conflict between Heaven and Hell, and by-and-large, and are by-and-large too powerful for in-game play.
Why does my character have to have a fatal weakness?
This is to prevent any character from dominating the board or being invulnerable to attack, humiliation, or death. Every character, even the Queen, Regent, and NPCs, have fatal weaknesses.
I want an unconventional power for my character.
Talk it over with the GM and let her know. The strengths and weaknesses shown in the race descriptions are examples of the most common type in that race. The only power that is prohibited from Players are powers that have a Holy source, including Healing and Light-based abilities.
How does character approval work?
Character sheets should be sent to the GM at beware_the_short_one@yahoo.com. Blank character sheets can be found in the Basic Character Sheet thread ( rpgqod.proboards.com/thread/12/basic-character-sheet ). Players can register an account, but all accounts must be approved by the Admin (GM). Further information can be found in the How Character Approval Works thread ( rpgqod.proboards.com/thread/14/character-approval-works ).
What is a Mini-Game?
A Mini-Game is a thread that introduces your character to the game, as well as shows off your role-play skills. It is a way to let your character's strengths and weaknesses show and integrate your character into the game as smoothly as possible. Senior Players will be in the game with you and will report back to the GM. To date, no one has failed their Mini-Game.
How often do I need to post? Is there a limit?
The minimum we ask is that you post once every two weeks, for each character active in the game. If you have only one character actively participating in a thread, you only need to post once every two. If you have two characters actively participating in a thread, you need to post twice every two weeks. There is no limit to how many times you can post in a week or day, but we do ask that you give other characters a chance to respond.
How many characters can I have?
You can have as many characters as you can handle. This is subjective, as some people prefer to have multiple characters while others prefer to have only a few.
I'm going to be gone, can you hold the game for me?
If your character is central to the thread, the thread can't continue - it's a simple as that. However, if your character isn't central to the thread, then it can and will continue without your character. As the game isn't typically fast-paced, you won't miss much if you are gone for only a few days to a week. If you will be gone longer than that, let the GM know and you can work something out with her.
I want _____ to happen.
If you have an idea for your character or an idea for the story, let the GM know by PM or e-mail. She is in charge of keeping track of the story in the QoD, but is open to ideas and suggestions. Most of the stories and threads in the game are the products of collaboration between the GM and Players. Sometimes, the GM will say "no" to a specific idea, in which case means she already has something in store.
I have a problem with a player.
Contact the Admin (GM) and let her know. The sooner she knows, the faster she can resolve any problems.
A character is being rude/hitting on/being mean to my character!
Under most circumstances, this is what the character would do in that situation, and is acting in character. It doesn't necessarily mean the Player is trying to single our you or your character. However, if you feel this is not the case, contact the Admin (GM) and let her know.
