Orchid: Royal Adviser / Queen of Vampires/Succubae
Basic Personality:
A woman who takes her position very seriously, Orchid sees herself as an icon among the Queen's entourage. She is powerful, and knows this, but position forbids her to exert her power too much, and so she reigns over her own sections of the Realm, which the Queen has graciously provided to her: the Library being her own personal "castle". Where her ancestors saw their positions as being ideal to usurp the throne, Orchid sees her position as the true seat of power. For who truly rules, the Queen, or the person who tells the Queen what to do? She has no delusions that her Majesty would commit her to the same fate as her forbearers if such heresy were to be voiced, but in winning the Queen's trust, Orchid has accepted that she has far more influence than she would have otherwise. The people respect the Queen, and the Queen respects her; therefore Orchid sees herself as the "true ruler" of the Underworld.
Cursed, or blessed, with great beauty, she has learned to use this to her advantage. Orchid finds humans to be the most stupid and "base" creatures in existence, simply because they refuse to see beauty as a threat. Like her Queen, who uses her childlike cuteness to influence others, Orchid is a wicked seductress who uses her beauty to gain the favor of her enemies in order to gain vital information (before squashing them like the insects that they are). She is able to spy key points of influence and use them to her advantage, regardless of how disgusted she herself may be by the outward beauty of other creatures.
Oddly enough, in that disgust, she finds a sense of desire. She is sickened by beauty, including her own, and must therefore possess and control it, for she is enticed by whatever she can control and destroy. She delights in finding new ways to torture and abuse things of beauty; her favorite prey being beautiful human women.
Orchid, while being chaste, has found ways to amuse herself in this area as well. Her definition of "chaste" is that no man shall have her. And none ever shall...women, on the other hand, are her toys and her pets, and so long as the Queen is gracious enough to allow her the choice of victims, Orchid will happily serve at the Queen's side. The Queen's amusement to Orchid's "absentminded mistakes" (as in the deaths of her prey through torture), just happens to be a perk.
Brief History:
Her family line has acted as advisers to the Queen's family for millennia, but not until Orchid was one actually pleased by their position. Orchid was appointed by the Queen and happily assumed the position after her cousin was dismissed. Since then, she has taken the duty very seriously, and sees herself as a sort of mother to the young QoD. Though, she is often vicious and cold-hearted with the other denizens of Hell, her patience with the Queen seems limitless.
Orchid is, in all technicality, the Queen of the Vampires, being the reluctant consort to her brother who is reigning king. One by one, the family line attempted to overthrow the Queen's family, and one by one they fell, either struck down by the Great Prince, or banished. Orchid was too smart. Her brother was too stupid and egotistical.
This position, along with that of her position as Royal Adviser, make Orchid one of the most, "connected" individuals in the Underworld. She does not usually stake her claim to this heritage, however since she is a Succubi by blood and sees vampires also to be beneath her. She sees the General, perhaps, to be her only equal in status, and even he is an oaf.
It is uncertain (to most) why Orchid feels exactly the way she does toward the Mortal realm. Those who can read her emphatically have learned that her distaste is shrouded by something more. She is cautious when she travels there, and always disappears for a short period of time after returning to the Library halls. Those few who know her secrets tend to hold her with a sort of "cautious awe". While she will discuss her family's shortcomings (usually concentrating on her brother's ego), she openly refuses to speak of her own past before she rose to her current position, and when pressed will disappear into the lower recesses of the Library until/unless the Queen herself commands her to be present.
Weakness(es):
Orchid has very few "weaknesses", though she does have a few vices which seem to overpower her sensibilities...
Bloodlust: Orchid's bloodlust is surprisingly strong, even for one of her kind. It is whispered (though never in her presence) that she once tasted the blood of a god and is since ever trying to quench her thirst. The presence of Angel's Blood is especially overpowering to her, almost to the point of insanity. She has, in fact, been known to lash out at the Queen herself in a blood frenzy...which the Queen has been generous enough to overlook (As she finds it amusing to see Orchid at the mercy of anything).
"The Strand": Orchid's weapon of choice, the Golden Strand, is in actuality attached to the back of her neck. It is uncertain how or why it is there, but it seems to be attached in such a way that it causes Orchid herself bodily harm for it to be detached. For this reason, she is careful when away from her home to not allow the strand to extend to it's full length (which is as yet unknown). And though it responds to her will alone, if caught off guard, the strand could serve to be more of a hindrance than a help.
Powers:
Empathy: Orchid can detect the emotions of any being, regardless of race or station. This makes her keenly aware of the surrounding mood so that she is able to judge her actions more clearly. She has learned to use this ability to judge the Queen's disposition and act accordingly. Orchid is "fed" by the fear of her victims, and becomes particularly sadistic in the presence of angry or fearful individuals.
Charm/Seduction: Orchid's beauty and her empathic abilities allow her to seduce and otherwise influence any lesser being. Her abilities are impossible for any human or lesser demon to resist, they will do what ever she asks, even kill them selves. Unfortunately for them, she is usually more interested in torturing them than fulfilling their desires.
Vampire/Succubi: Due to her racial status, Orchid is able to change mortals into vampires by the appropriate means. She does not often do so, since the process is time consuming and to waste such time upon a mortal is beneath her. Her race also affords her the ability to change mortals into Vampires. She will then tempt the poor individuals into becoming her slaves and thus becoming Succubae/Incubi. Incubi are treated more as slaves to her than the succubae, but she still holds these in low regard. More often than not, she will simply use them as food and allow her brother to have his way with them.
Disguise/Shapeshift: Orchid is able to change her appearance enough to move among mortals at will. Obviously, she rarely uses this ability, but when needed, she is able to make her tail and wings appear invisible, change the shade of her skin (though slightly, she still appears to be very pale skinned), and eyes (from violet to a deep blue) and shrink in stature to a more normal height (she is normally 7'...she is able to appear 6'5"). Her facial features and hair color remain the same.
Flight: Though Orchid's wings appear to be too small for her to fly, she can in fact extend their length in order to do so. In their normal state, she is capable of gliding short distances, but when fully extended, she is able to fly with alarming grace and speed. She sees this as "tedious" however, and rarely does so
Magical Items:
"The Golden Strand": Seemingly a fine golden filament most often seen woven through Orchid's hair and resembles a Greek Senator's laurel wreath, is actually a symbiotic organism. Upon act of Orchid's will, the Strand unravels and wraps itself around any victim she chooses. It has some intelligence of it's own, and does not attack anything above her station (i.e. the Queen), though will act against this if Orchid is enraged. She finds it particularly useful in the mortal realm. It's exact length is unknown, though it becomes quite obvious that the Strand is far longer than it appears at first glance. (Careful inspection will reveal that it also serves as Orchid's jewelery and the laces of her gown). *see also "Weaknesses"
"Cloak of Shadows": Orchids Cloak allows her to hide among the shadows easily. This gives her the ability to hide as needed when awaiting prey, or when she wishes to go unseen.
Queen's Crest (charm): This medallion was given to Orchid by the Queen and allows her the ability to use a portal from the Underworld to the Mortal realm and back again. She keeps it on her at all times.
Normal Items:
Grand Tome: Book of Law and edicts for the Queen's domain. As the Queen's adviser, Orchid carries the book (or has one of her attendants carry it) everywhere while on the Infernal Plane. She hates leaving it behind when she travels to the mortal realm during the Queen's "trips", but has memorized most of it's passages, so it is not needed so much for reference as a status symbol.
Signet ring: Orchid's family crest. It has no magical properties, but is one of the few sentimental objects she owns.
Appearance:
Orchid is perhaps the most beautiful woman in hell, which to her, is hardly something to be pleased about. She is nearly 7 feet tall, which allows her to look down upon most. Her skin is flawless and, in her normal state, appears to be a pearly white. Her hair, in stark contrast to her skin, is as black as the darkest recesses of Hell itself, and falls straight, reaching to just below her waist. In their true form, her wings are enormous leathery bat wings, the same color as her skin. She sees them as being rather clumsy and awkward at this size though, and normally appears with them as much smaller in size, usually only about 2 or 3 feet in length. She also has a long, barbed tail and forked tongue. Perhaps her most striking feature are her eyes, which are a deep violet. When she is overcome with her "bloodlust", however, they become a bright red and glow with an eerie light. *see "Disguise" for appearance in "mortal form".
