A thread dedicated to remembering some of the decisions that went into character creation.
So, how DID you come up with:
1) Your character's name? 2) Your character's rank? 3) Your character's personality? 4) Your character's history? 5) Your character's powers/abilities? 6) Your character's weaknesses? 7) Your character's items (magical and non-magical)? 8) Your character's appearance?
(I totally just went down the basic character sheet for the list. If you have any more questions to add, just let me know!)

1) I think I had it reserved on a name list, and just chose it at random. O.o 2) What, like I'd play some lazy noble, or boring merchant... Pfff! 3) He acts like... well, like I'd like to act if I'd been born a guy. 4) I was unsure of the canon history of the QoD and didn't want to step on anyone's toes, and I just didn't know! D: 5) Er... I got all of it from the Fallen abilities - except the whole "agile & dexterous" thing. I thought I'd add something new and different. 6) I panicked. Simple as that. 7) I really didn't know what kind of weapon he'd use, so I chose something weird. 8) I made him the exact opposite of what I found attractive - short (for his species), light-haired, light-eyed, and dark(ish) skinned. And I hate heights, so I took away his wings. And gave him awesome scars. Everywhere.

1) I think I panicked again. Sorry, guys. 2) He needed POWER. And, you know, the crack about noble and merchant... 3) Since he was going to be an enemy, he needed to be an ass. Everything else just developed naturally. In fact, I remember being told that he needed to be MORE plotty. O.o 4) Seemed... the thing to do with an Incubus. Really, I just don't know. 5) Taken straight from the Incubus abilities, plus being told he needed some other sort of power. Alchemy was it. 6) Taken from his personality, what Becky said (being plotty), and a fair bit of panic. 7) I had no idea what went on here. 8) I think I accidentally stole quite a bit from Khan here, but I hated the thought of having a pink or purple Devil (the only other colors available at the time).

1) A combination of my two favorite characters from Romeo and Juliet. And of course, they died. 2) Er... see Lys. 3) Chad. That's all there is to it. Chad. 4) How to make a blind Devil plausible... hmmm. 5 & 6) What sort of things would be useful and realistic here? 7) What does a blind demon carry around? 8) Illidan. I cop to this.

1) Skalp, simple, quick, clean and just a little morbid. Says everything right there. Although he’s so new, he’s defiantly one of my favourite characters. He came to me in a dream… I was on a table, he asked if I was comfortable, if I needed anything. I said no I was quite fine thanks for asking. Then the dissection began. 2) It’s just Skalp doing what he loves. What else could he be? 3) I had an interesting design to begin with. A hellish surgeon. But that’s been done by Hellraiser, House of 1000 Corpses, Frankenstein ect. So I was like “You know what? Those guys were dicks, my character is now a philanthropist!” And for some reason that just made him creepier. 4) Skalp needed a lot of things. Workspace, assistants, funds… recourses. And he’s a just a demonling. Demonlings get slapped all over the place. But not if he’s important somehow, not if he’s really really old or privy to secrets. Skalp is like a super genius, but in the end is just a utility. So the Materia Medica with its rich and colourful history was born. 5) Skalp had to be better then good at his job. He can basically work twisted abominable God forsaken miracles using just a needle and thread. 6) I didn’t really give him any weaknesses, he’s perfect just the way he is. A pointy, elegant, proficient and a productive member of the hellish community. Hmph! 7) See 4. 8) He’s alien, mechanical in his efficiency and a little scary. And that’s also exactly how he looks.

1) When I was thinking about the race I chose, I knew I'd need something exotic. And besides if I were going to tie in two sisters, I wanted their names to fit symbolically with the name I was choosing... So I started playing around with French words and Ciel, Mer and Fiere seemed right to me. But I made Ciel the oldest because really the sky is the oldest of the three...And Trakand I took from Wheel of Time., XD(lol I talk a lot.) 2) Hm. This was a group decision. I didn't want to play highborn at first because I wanted to kinda have her be nice and seductive -- Not entirely for a reason. So I asked Beck and we talked about it. And we came up with Court Pet. Just enough for her to have some clout, but she'd still be bowing to royals and nobles. The Lady Trakand came muuuuch later. As storyline progressed and characters did as well, she just so happened to get promoted. 3) Her personality came easily to me. I just thought of what I'd find sexy. And I thought that she should be kinda different from me, so I fiddled with what was written til I got to my sexy counterpart. ^^ 4) I have to admit, that was sort of a group effort. Vai wrote me a brief history that would fit with Devilcats and I spiced it up a little til it was how I liked it (and how it would get accepted.) 5) I went with the normal Devilcat list. I didn't really want to godmod her, and I figured I could work with what was there. 6) I used the basic list and spiced it up with the fear of snakes and large bodies of water and the fatality of jade to her. I wanted to make power the only thing she truly feared until she figured out how it worked. She's still scared of it, she just... looks at the person behind it now. 7) Those were simple. I gave her what would help her and look pretty all at the same time. 8) This little lady has been living in my head a long time. She told me how she looked and said if I messed with her description, she'd smack me.XD

1) It's a boy's name, oddly enough. But I loved the way it rolled off my tongue, so I kept it. 2) I've always admired female bandits. And I figured a bandit with a horde of constructs? Awesome. 3) And I figured an even BIGGER challenge would be a female kitsune with 8 tails who's a Zen Master. Being that I'm so not a Zen Master myself... 4) I simply gave her the past she needed to be who she turned out to be. And I wanted to make her sort of a Robin Hood figure without the giving to the poor part. She helps her own. 5) I gave her the common kitstune ones for her age. 6) Same with weaknesses. Doesn't make her any stronger though. 7) I will admit, I went a little weapon crazy. ^^ I looked up everything a Zen Master Bandit would love... XD For her and her constructs. 8) I simply love the appearance I dreamed up. She's pretty, but at the same time able to blend into her surroundings. ^^ Sometimes I am a genius at making pretties!

1) Aww man, this was the longest most excruciating part, Bardiel went through like five name changes. I wanted him to have a Theophoric name (kind of like an aspect of God), going down the list Bardiel seemed the most appropriate. That then got me into neon genesis evangelion (which if you’re into anime you should totally watch, soi good) 2) He’s a wanderer who’ll leave this town the same way he blew in, taking your heart with him into the sunset. 3) Full psychopath, all the time, in every possible way. But not crazy dumb. Crazy smart, soo sharp that he keeps cutting himself. 4) Hmmm, that’s a tough one. Probably just a mishmash of events, I tried to get him falling into hell multiple times to do cool things like slay void beasts and challenge Lucifer, because he used to be a hardcore badass like that (before all the crazy). 5) Who remembers the original green power ranger? That’s Bardiel. He even speaks green. He needed a little boost to set him apart from a team, but balanced by a broken moral compass and inability to work well with others. Man… green power ranger was awesome. 6) Why not make an immortal angel mortal? Tragic, especially when he’s only able to spend that time being insane. 7) I was just thinking of corrupting or decaying things to wrap him up with. Also I always imagined him as that one angel that guarded Eden with two flaming swords. 8) I wanted his look to scream ‘danger, that fallen is not safe to be around’. His monster form is based on the Zu/Imdugud in Babylonian myth who made the gods piss their pants before it died.

Post by Ereshkigal on Sept 18, 2012 23:12:13 GMT -6
1) She's had 3 names through the course of the game. Ghostie, Yurei and finally Ereshkigal. Ghostie because originally back in like 2001/2002 (oh yeah BTW the game is 10 years old this year... we kinda missed the birthday O.o) I went by Ghostie, and she's like a super self insert character. Ereshkigal is name of the Sumerian goddess of the underworld. I read once where she was a kidnapped sky goddess who was set up as the "Princess of Shadows" and "The Queen of Darkness". The passage where she spoke about her "fall" was so very much something Ere would say that I fell in love.
2) Umm... funny story, Ere came before the game. I'm a very small person with big eyes and curly hair. I'm cute, like a doll or a teddy bear. When I was a teenager I hated this. I got so sick of it that when a coworker called me cute I said "Call me anything else but cute!" He replied "Okay you're not cute you're evil... You're the daughter of the devil!"
I drew Ere for the first time that night, and picked her hair color at random. As a gag I began asking my friends if they would like to join my evil army... a couple weeks later I opened up the first board... it had a really different color scheme.
3) Once again, massive self insert here. She started out as a bit like me, if I was given her powers. She was a spoiled brat who always wanted her way and threw a fit if she didn't get it. Hell was like her playground and she didn't think there was really anyway she could be hurt. I like to think she's grown. alot.
4) At first she didn't have one besides being a Daddy's girl and a child queen. It's developed along with the game and the events of the game.
5) Since I was the GM I felt my character needed to be able to corral the rest of the players and get them where they needed to be. So her powers were initially based around that.
6) Another thing that developed naturally as an outgrowth of the story. I'm not sure it's mentioned anywhere, but Ere's madness as a Pe'Ri is megalomania. Though I guess right now she's a bit schizophrenic as well... hm...
7) Based on the original painting I did of her, she has the necklace, the diadem and scepter.
8) I used a brown haired version of Ere as my avatar at the time. I wanted some significant differences so I changed the hair color (so different!!). Now she's got a fairly standard look. One thing I love is that she still wears my old boots... I don't mention it often but yeah, they finally died this year, and I'm pleased that she'll keep wearing them.

1) I think that was randomly decided - we needed a Japanese name, and that one was better than most. The Kouteinoshi was deliberately picked from a Japanese-English dictionary I found online YEARS ago.
2) Er... See history.
3) Seeing that the majority of the Kitsune Pe'ri (Ere and Angeni) were extremely hyperactive and excitable... yeah.
4) Honestly, he was a character in an AU version of the QoD Becky and I were playing around with, meant to be a sort of romantic interest of Ere's (called Yurei in that particular plot). I went back to through the Kitsune Pe'ri, and read that they usually had a powerful parent (or two), so... yeah.
5) I chose some of the usual Kitsune Pe'ri powers, nothing more. I deliberately made him a lot less powerful than Ere or Angeni, though.
6) I'm... actually still working on that. >.> I figure it'll come through RP-ing him.
7) Who doesn't love shiny pebbles? Also... really didn't know what properties to give his weapons, which are totally stolen from Inuyasha.
8) I saw a picture on DA. It inspired Roka. 'Course, a LOT of changes have been made since then.
