Name: Fovea Ira Superbia de Mammon
Rank: Low Court, Duke’s son, Earl of Devils, Prince and Steward of the great de Mammons, Royal Knight of Hell’s Legion, Member of Her Majesties Privy Councillors, Aid de Camp to Her Majesty Queen Ereshkigal I.
Basic Personality:
Fovea naturally projects a carefree atmosphere. Strict grooming since an early age has scarcely seemed to affect his whimsical nature and blatant disregard for footwear. However, he is eloquent and graceful enough not to shame himself before his noble peers. Gifted with an ocean of patience, Fovea never looses his temper, at least outwardly. He chooses instead to expresses himself creatively and is fond of both nature and the arts. While Fovea seems to prefer solitude many find him charming and pleasant company. He is easily approachable and often gathers a small audience for whatever spirited activity he’s currently undertaking. People easily find themselves mistaking Fovea’s eccentricities for naiveté, he would argue this, but that’s not to say it isn’t right. Right?
Brief(ish) History:
De Mammon. Once that name echoed throughout the empty Abyss and brought the denizens of Inferno grovelling to their knees. No longer. When Cali of house Adramelech was given as wife to the royal de Mammon’s it only further solidified their high standing with the devils. While this gained Satan’s ire, there was little the King could do against Mammon’s growing popularity and power.
However during Lucifer’s rebellion the Adramelechs were one of the first devil families to side with the Fallen Angel, giving Satan excuse enough needed to weaken the strength of Mammon’s arm. To prove his loyalty and save face the White Demon was pressured into sending many of his families swords to confront Lucifer. Now that they were vulnerable toward the many lesser squabbling devil houses, Cali was free to sell much of Mammon’s lands to keep them at bay. Sell them to allies of the Adramelechs. The pressure on both sides during the civil war eventually proved too much for Mammon’s house, but in the end it mattered little. With de Mammon declaring for Satan few survived the revolution, and while Adramelech was praised for assisting the Fallen, much of it’s previous worth was divided amongst new angelic nobility.
Still it’s through its ties with Adramelech that the name Mammon and the White Demon carries on.
Fovea Ira Superbia is the child of the Duchess Cali and Duke deMammon. Probably. Palace gossip can’t seem to decide on the matter. While Fovea clearly takes after his father in appearance there has always been something angelic or fae in the young devil, at complete odds with de Mammon senior’s gruff, militaristic attitude. The child looks to have nothing in common with the Duchess, except of course they each possess the most amazing eidetic memory. Which parent had the supposed affair has jokingly divided the Hellish Courts into three distinct camps; those who see Lady Cali as his mother, those who see the Duke as his father, and those who couldn’t be dammed but you can bet they’d have an affair with Fovea.
Its common knowledge that there’s no loved lost between Fovea’s parents. Rumour says the Duke would happily kill his Adramelech wife for the part she and her house played in the rebellion. Lady Cali on the other hand makes no secret of her husband’s many failures, namely those which go on within the bedroom. Fovea himself hasn’t spent much time with either of them. As soon as he could feed himself he’s been a ‘guest’ of the palace, from there the current King of Devils keeps a close eye on him. The young Forvea grew up watching the hidden power plays beneath both Courts in Hell, as well as the other children. He was well liked for the most part, even made good friends with one of Lucifer’s many daughters at one point. Until another of Lucifer’s brood killed her.
Fovea was still a child when the Armistice broke and has never really been in an even fight. After the second war he joined Hells Legion at his fathers bidding. Because of his esteemed breed he was given an honorary rank, but Fovea gained little else. Indeed the young devil seems to care little and less for his titles.
He’s well known in Hell for his contributions to music, theatre and other art, but loved for the events he organizes for the commoners. With the wealth from his Adramelech half, Fovea has directed surprise festivals in Pandemonium since an early age. At first it was just an excuse to show Fovea’s own works, but has since grown into a chance for any demon to display their talents. Many of the Courts entertainers are recruited at these events, as are their chiefs and gardeners. Fovea isn’t too fussy over the details of these festivals, details like security and guest lists.
The status quo for a festival is pretty predictable. Usually Fovea begins by hiring servants to throw money and sheet music around the merchant district. The next thing anyone knows a large public place has been reserved and the common folk have begun dancing, drinking and robbing each other blind.
Powers and Abilities:
“I can fly”- When he doesn’t have his wings decorated with bindings of brass and gold
“Nomnomnom”- On several occasions Fovea has shown a disturbing talent for dislocating his jaws and gnawing on strange things. He can easily rip through wood and dent steel.
“Hey, that looks easy”- Fovea can remember everything he’s ever experienced with photogenic clarity. This includes even feelings, sounds, tastes and smells. He’s a quick learner.
Hidden talents- Somehow he picked up a bit of Char’Sarei Tin’se, maybe more then a bit. Those rumours have to come from somewhere.
Hidden talents- Is that slight of hand, or has Fovea dabbled in sorcery? Some will tell you it has to be because of his supposed fae heritage.
Fatal Weakness(es):
“Don’t worry, trust me”- Despite his complacent nature, there’s just something that stops sane people from trusting him.
“!@#$%”- Like all devils, Fovea sometimes speaks without thinking.
“I’ve forgotten how to forget”- For some people time heals all wounds. This is not quite true for Fovea. His body might be able to recover form injury, but the pain will always be fresh in his memory, lurking, ready to pounce. Sometimes he can loose himself in the memories of others, as if there’s another mind inhabiting his head (someone dead?), confusing what’s real. Fovea discovered he can dull particular memories by meditating on them in the presence of Dark Kitsune, but every time he activates Mother’s Choker, the more difficult it becomes. Sometimes it feels as though his brain might explode.
Magical Items:
Mother’s Choker- Wrapped tightly around his neck, the choker is decorated with small puss filled eyes that stare painfully out from a silver prison textured like tortured flesh. When activated it allows Fovea to recall memories from whatever he touches. By holding a paintbrush he can remember how it was held, by touching a tree he can remember the seasons it has weathered. The longer he remains in contact the more he remembers. By concentrating, the activated Choker also accelerates Fovea’s mental activity, making him experience the world as if it were playing in slow motion. Control over the Choker’s an iffy thing, but for the most part Fovea only collects memories from things he consciously chooses to (so long as he’s touching it).
Non-magical Items:
Some decorative gold and brass; bindings for his wings, studded caps for the filed points of his horns.
Appearance:
It’s hard to tell what Fovea’s gender is without knowing him quite well. Despite the common presence of dirt on the claws of his hands, they can only be describes as dainty. He rarely wears shoes, so the soles of his clawed feet are rough and calloused. He has delicate androgynous features, with sweeping eyelashes and bright molten gold eyes. He has his father’s skin; it’s absolutely white, like porcelain or chalk. His startling cobalt hair is long, but unkempt, in the wild style reserved only for genius and artists. It doesn’t help matters that he prefers to wear only enormous long sleeved shirts. Well they’re either a shirts or dresses.
For some strange reason he also possesses a monstrous set of teeth, two rows of them.
Fovea originally had five blood red horns, but he keeps three filled down so as not to appear to rise above his station. If left to grow they’d array themselves around his temples and forehead like some wicked crown, the two horns at his temples even going so far as to branch out like barbed antlers.
