General Rules Regarding the QoD
1. Due to the nature of the game and prevalence of adult themes, we ask that all players be 18 years of age or older.
2. The rules of Proboards prohibit actual sex on the board. Nudity is fine (and not uncommon), as are innuendos, references to sex and sexual acts, and even some build-up and mild foreplay. Please be mature about this and don't try to squeeze by with Georgia O'Keefe references.
3. Profanity is fine. We are, after all, playing demons in Hell. Just try to keep in mind that demons come from a very different culture, and while the sentiment remains the same, the words might change. EX: "Damnit" becomes "blessit."
4. Try to post at least once every two weeks, for each character actively participating on the board. If, for whatever reason, you cannot post that often, let the GM know. We understand that you have a life outside of the game, and sometimes you have to give your attention to things more important than an RP forum on the internet. Just try not to drop off the face of the planet. We worry.
5. If, for whatever reason, you decide to leave the game, let the GM know. We can come up with a convincing out for your character. However, please understand that if you do not get with the GM about an out for your character, we will be come up with one ourselves after three months.
6. Do not bother other players or the GM about posting, role-play, or character approval. Asking questions is fine - and encouraged - but don't go overboard.
7. If you want to create a character for the QoD, please e-mail the GM your character sheet at beware_the_short_one@yahoo.com. You can go ahead and register your new character, but you must await approval. Character approval usually takes less than a week, but in some cases can take longer if the GM has questions regarding your character.
8. Please try to fill out your character sheets as completely as possible. We don't ask for a novel on your character, but the more information you have on your character, the better.
9. Your character MUST have a fatal weakness or series of weaknesses that can lead to their death, humiliation, and/or manipulation. This is to prevent any character from dominating the board, and is NOT up for debate.
10. Please try to keep in mind that we are playing demons in Hell. While you are not expected to adhere to any rules of evil or alignment, Hell is a harsh, vicious, and often deadly environment, where only the strongest or most ruthless survive. You can create a sweet, innocent, and naive character if you wish, but remember that they will be eaten alive out there.
11. Out-of-Character (or OOC) play is to be kept in the OOC section of the board. Anything that happens in the OOC boards or threads does not impact the game or character development. Should something happen that does impact your character, contact the GM so that she may arrange for a similar circumstance to occur on the board.
12. It is perfectly acceptable to role-play outside of the forum (IE: e-mail, instant messaging service, etc.). However, if something happens that impacts your character or would impact the story, we ask that you contact the GM and let her know. She is in charge of the game's story, and will need to integrate this change into the story and make it available in the Archive. You do not have to contact the GM with every role-play outside of the forum.
13. Keep the GM updated on any changes that occur with your character. It is the GM's job to create a fun and interesting plot for us to play in, and in order to do that, she sometimes needs information regarding the characters.
14. Regarding grammar and spelling in posts. It is not strictly necessary to adhere to the rules and laws of grammar or spelling in your posts, but it is appreciated. Good grammar and spelling keeps your post easy to read and easy to understand. As an addendum to this rule - do not call others out on their grammar or spelling.
15. Please pre-authorize your fights or battles with the GM before proceeding, unless you have already discussed it with your opponent and have already decided the outcome. Combat in the QoD is decided by the GM via an impartial system (usually regarding dice or coin flips), taking into account character power, ability, strength, armor and weapons, and weaknesses.
16. Absolutely no god-modding, either in the game or in the OOC area. That is, do not write actions against another character (specifically combat actions) as successful, or write out the reactions of other characters. Of course, this applies to characters that are not yours. Some players may allow it, especially if they know you, but many won't.
17. READ THE FAQ. The FAQ may have additional information helpful to character creation or play, and can help prevent misunderstandings.
Remember, all these rules can be summed up in one sentence: "Don't be a douchebag." Douchebaggery will not be tolerated within the QoD.
